Carl and Kyle Committed for This Year’s Nationwide Run!
November 24, 2008
MEMPHIS – Of the four NASCAR Sprint Cup regulars who also competed full-time in the Nationwide Series in 2008, only Memphis champ Carl Edwards will return this season. But he’s not assured of smooth sailing for a second Nationwide title. Kyle Busch has entered the fray.
The “double dip” – running full schedules in both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series – is a grind. Just ask Clint Bowyer, who won the 2008 Nationwide Series title but won’t be back to defend it. David Reutimann and David Ragan may run limited schedules but won’t be back full-time, either.
According to all reports, however, Edwards is a guarantee. He will be back.
And Joe Gibbs Racing president J.D. Gibbs said Jan. 20 that Busch will run Memphis and the full 35-race Nationwide schedule in the No. 18, in addition to his Sprint Cup duties. Busch won 10 Nationwide races last year, nine of them coming in 19 starts with JGR. Eight of those nine victories came in the No. 18. Busch made his most recent appearance at Memphis Motorsports Park in 2004, finishing 14th in the Sam’s Town “He Dared To Rock” 250 in the No. 5 for Hendrick Motorsports.
